Entry Forty Three: Tis’ the Season For Some Reason

It feels like I was just here…

Anyways, welcome back y’all! I’m not even gonna lie, not a lot happened since my last email, but it was a pretty good time nonetheless. The odd Wednesday P-Day makes the week fly by so fast. I hope y’all had a great and eventful week though!

It feels like literally everyone has forgotten about Thanksgiving, and have gone straight for Christmas. One of our main sources of public contacting this week was a Christmas mart here in Lebanon (actually similar to Kris Kindle Mart at This is the Place Heritage Park in SLC). Now, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Christmas! But like turkeys and fall leaves, no?

Despite my love for Thanksgiving, something I need to work on is having more gratitude. I’m not sure about the rest of you, but it can be really easy to forget what we’ve been given and hyper-focus on what we don’t have. That is what the natural man does, and it is far easier to give into those desires. However, like Elder Corbridge once put it, it is far more intelligent to step things up to the next level.

Overcoming the natural man is a choice. The prophet Lehi once taught:

“Wherefore, men are free according to the flesh; and all things are given them which are expedient unto man. And they are free to choose liberty and eternal life through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself.” (2 Nephi 2:27)

We may be predisposed to make some wrong choices or think some wrong thoughts, but we should not deny the grace that that great Mediator gave us as a gift. By living in accordance with His gospel (that being Faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, Repentance, Covenant Keeping, Receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the End), we choose freedom. It is simple, but arduous and lengthy. I am still figuring these things out for myself. But this much I do know: when we choose to focus on Him, it becomes easier to choose the path of sainthood over the natural man. That I can be ever grateful for.

I bear testimony to you all that Jesus is the Christ, our Savior, and Redeemer. Choose the intelligent way. Learn of him, talk with him, walk with him. He brings joy. He brings purpose. And he brings light. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

For Jesus died on Calvary, that all through him might ransomed be. Then sing hosannas to his name; let heaven and earth his love proclaim.

Love y’all!

Remembering the reason for all the seasons,

-Elder Clayton
