Entry Fifty Three: The Wind Chills Your Bones
Well good morning everybody! As you may have noticed, this is not coming out on Monday, but on Wednesday. You can probably tell what that means; I'm going to the temple!
However, I was anticipating unparalleled laziness for this Wednesday. So, I decided to write this on Sunday morning (and a little in the evening after I turned in) so we'd be all ready to go Wednesday morning. I also thought it might be cool to try writing these on Sunday. We'll see how I like it.
To begin, one of the primary points of my studying this week has been about the atonement of Christ, specifically with an emphasis on the veil. This all got sparked when our mission's institute teacher, Brother Rambo, held a class about it and it blew my mind.
In essence there are two things that I want to share. The first being the meaning of the veil in the original Tabernacle, as outlined in Exodus 26 (I believe). There are 5 colors that make up the veil, being blue, purple, scarlett, cherubim (gold), and fine twined linen (white). These colors actually have some symbolism, and when laid out in a sentence in order it reads:
Heaven's royal blood purchased purity
The veil is Jesus Christ! How fascinating! And the message is so incredible! That because Jesus paid the price we can be pure! And it gets even better:
Immediately after the crucifixion was complete and Jesus gave up the ghost, the veil at the temple was rent (Matthew 27:51). It seems strange, until we consider the context from the scriptures. The veil originally was only passed through by one man once a year, for him to enter the Holy of Holies, the most sacred place on earth; in other words, very sacred stuff a lot didn't get to see.
But with the veil being rent, the following verse gives us hope:
Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; (Hebrews 10:19-20)
Because of what Jesus Christ has done the law of Moses has been fulfilled. Modern temple ordinances allow us to now enter into the presence of the father BOLDLY. Through Jesus Christ, we can have power, purity, and purpose. Not just that, but so much more.
I testify to you all boldly that Jesus is the living Christ. He speaks today through his Holy prophets. Through Joseph Smith he restored His church. His love knows no bounds. Because the veil has been rent we are free to commune with our Father in Heaven and walk directly in His ways, even to the point where we will become like him. This I say, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
Thank you for letting me share that, I hope you found it pretty interesting. Now onto the week:
So it was really cold this week.
Like to the point where I now understand the common saying around here, “The wind will chill your bones.” Buuut, it just gives me opportunity to wear fire sweater fits.
I tried cooking a sausage that I got from a member a while back and when I cut it open to eat it it was mostly raw inside. Very unintelligently of me I still tried eating it 💀
Thank God I didn't get sick…
We also were able to meet with James a couple times this week. He felt he needed to push his baptismal date back (and we agreed), until the next day he texted us about a spiritual experience he had that instilled so much urgency into him.
Safe to say, we’re baptizing him later this week (mostly likely the day after this gets sent out 🤯). I just hope he understands everything. Because of how weird the pacing has been, we literally just taught him the restoration lesson on Saturday 😭
Update from post Sunday: He didn't come to church, so no more baptism. Tragic, but it happens sometimes 🤷
Our DL had the genius idea to motivate us to reach our district goals by offering himself and his companion to be pied in the face at the next district council. I have never seen a district reach their goals faster 🤣
I’ll update y’all on how it went: Nvm we’re doing it later today and I wanna send this out asap. I’ll let y’all know come Monday.
Rejoice, the Lord is King! Your Lord and King adore! Mortals, give thanks and sing and triumph evermore! Lift up your heart, lift up your voice! Rejoice! Again, I say, rejoice! Lift up your heart, life up your voice! Rejoice! Again, I say, rejoice!
Love y’all, have a good one
