Entry Fifty Two: The King James Bible is FALSE
Greetings everybody! I hope this week was magical for you. It was pretty good here in Lebanon, TN, and I have now learned for myself that the most common and respected translation of the Holy Bible is false and apostate. Here’s how:
Ok so, there I was, in the good ole Kroger parking lot, and I invited this one guy to church. When people know about our church they either do one of two things, and fortunately for me, he did the funnier option. Squinted his eyes at me and inquired, “Mormon?” I took the opportunity to crack a joke (this is a guilty pleasure of mine…) and I told him, “No sir, Mormon died a long time ago. I am, however, a missionary for Jesus Christ’s restored church.”
He probably didn’t find that funny, and then started asking me all the basic gotchya questions like:
Are Satan and Jesus brothers?
You guys believe you can get your own planet/become God?
And, why do you need the Book of Mormon?
With that last one I went to bear testimony of the Book of Mormon (because it is true!) and I mentioned that a part of my testimony is how it is connected with the Bible, and then he just started laughing?? He then went on to tell me that most Bible translations are false and apostate, including the KJV. He then gave me a very small and abridged New Testament (I still cannot figure out which translation it is lol) (Ok nvm I took a moment to take a look and I noticed in the very corner of one of the last pages it is the Easy to Read Version (and I’m pretty sure that’s based off of KJV)).
So yeah anyways, that was a fun interaction.
We had zone conference this week, and even though what we were talking about was juuust a little daunting (increasing the standards by a significant amount and being very intentional with planning), I could feel the spirit strongly testify to me that this is the direction that I need to move in as I grow as a disciple of Jesus Christ. It’s gonna be tough, but I’m excited to see myself be changed into who the Lord needs me to be.
Lastly, we had none of our set friends show up to church, which was an absolute bummer :/
However, that morning we prayed to have someone we were not expecting to show up, and lo and behold, somebody came! She slipped through the cracks and we weren’t able to begin teaching her before she left. BUT, a member told us that she seemed to have a good time in relief society and was planning on coming back next week. Hopefully our prayers will be answered again.
This week for a spiritual thought I felt impressed to talk about family home evenings. Now, my parents might be surprised to hear this, but some of my fondest memories growing up have been sitting with my family for family home evenings (probably because of the anticipation of a treat, but that doesn’t matter).
We studied the Family Proclamation in Elder’s Quorum yesterday, and these lines really stuck out to me:
Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities.
Families who do these things will find the path to eternal life together unfold right before them. I absolutely LOVE how God’s preferred unit for us to spawn into is the family. I love my family a lot! I am super excited to be able to start my own family one day! We really do find true joy through our relationships, especially familial ones.
My call to you all today is to get on this simple action you can take each week to strengthen your families. I know it might not be the easiest, with work and school and all, but I can promise you that even 15 minutes each week will be well worthwhile (and it doesn’t have to be Mondays!). And if you do happen to already have this routine, I would invite you to strengthen it in some way. Perhaps this is a call to invite a friend to join you this week. Maybe you feel impressed to plan a specific lesson. Or possibly you could take an opportunity to involve the whole family in making the treat (the most important part of the evening for sure).
I testify that Christ’s atonement strengthens families as we keep our homes focused on him. He is a member of our eternal family; our older brother, our Savior, our friend. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
I have a family here on earth. They are so good to me. I want to share my life with them through all eternity. Families can be together forever through Heavenly Father’s plan. I always want to be with my own family, and the Lord has shown me how I can. The Lord has shown me how I can.
Love you all,
-Elder Clayton
