Entry Sixty Four: With Healing in His Wings
Well, I made it to a full Minecraft stack of email entries. Hot diggity dawg!
This week was albeit really good! I feel a bit sick right now and there’s not too much time today, so I'll only share one story, but just know I am well.
We had a media referral who was going through a real rough patch, and he told us some incredibly concerning things and some threats of self harm. So, we unplanned right then drove 45 minutes out to his house to attempt to save him from himself. But with no avail, there was no answer at the door.
I then had a prompting to just open the door and shout inside (it lowkey felt like when Nephi had the prompting to kill Laban). After standing there contemplating for a minute or two I decided why not, and gave it a shot. No answer still.
We knocked the neighbors house to ask if the guy even lived there, but all we got was a door slammed in our face. On our way to the next neighbor's house, we saw the guy walk out of the house and sit on his porch.
We attempted to plead with him to listen to us and to let Christ take his burden. He shrugged us off and told us to leave. Right as I got in the car, I once again tried to tell him the eternal truth that God truly loves him. He looked at me so hurt, and then spoke hopelessly, “If God was gonna help me, he'd have done it by now.”
Now, I'm not attempting to discredit his feelings; I've been in a place of such hopelessness myself. But I think he is wrong on that.
“But behold, I, Nephi, will show unto you that the tender mercies of the Lord are over those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith, to make them mighty even unto the power of deliverance.” (1 Nephi 1:20)
What Nephi has taught us is that there are tender mercies around us all the time. It is indisputable. What’s important though is that it is through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ that we can recognize and use these blessings.
We are the Lord’s chosen. Why else would he go willingly to Gethsemane? Why would he submit himself to the Sanhedrin and let them torture him? Why would he give up his ghost on the hill of Golgotha?
I declare to you today that Jesus is the Christ, the Savior of us all! Recognize that he would have done it if you were the only person on earth. You matter. Your soul is worth so much more than you can ever know in this life.
To all those that say miracles don't happen anymore, I invite you to remove that toxic belief from your life. Through faith we can see the Lord's tender mercies. There is hope to be found in Him. Truly He is risen, with healing in his wings!
Jesus is a God of miracles. Nothing is at all impossible to him. But I know this, of all his miracles the most incredible must be the miracle that rescues me!
In the name of Jesus Christ, amen
Trying to love like Jesus,
-Elder Clayton
