Entry Sixty Six: A skin of redness fell upon them
Hey so remember how I said my district was fishing last week? Yeah, we spent a little too long in the sun and we all got sunburnt 👺
However, since I was in the suit all day, only my face got a little red. The tender mercies are over all the Lord’s chosen.
But, I hope you all are doing great! This was honestly a pretty hard week, but a rewarding one. I'm learning that the more I put my faith in Jesus Christ, the less discouraged I feel when hard times come. This gospel is absolutely magical!
Elder Painter and I got to give our fair share of priesthood blessings to some friends this week. I'm not sure if I’ve shared much about Ronnie and his son Ronin, but they have had it ROUGH in the past year or so.
Ronnie has been trudging along the gospel path over the past few months, and it has been super cool to see his heart change. It was especially cool to see him get all teary eyed as we gave his son a blessing of healing. He felt the spirit, and he could not deny it. Oh what a wonderful opportunity it is to be a worthy priesthood holder! Moments such as these take life to a whole new level.
Ok I've been sat here for the past 20 minutes trying to conjure up another thing to talk about but nothing is coming to mind hahaha
So, I will share one of my favorite scriptures from my studies this last week:
7 …Yea, even the very God of Israel do men trample under their feet; I say, trample under their feet but I would speak in other words—they set him at naught, and hearken not to the voice of his counsels.
8 And behold he cometh, according to the words of the angel, in six hundred years from the time my father left Jerusalem.
9 And the world, because of their iniquity, shall judge him to be a thing of naught; wherefore they scourge him, and he suffereth it; and they smite him, and he suffereth it. Yea, they spit upon him, and he suffereth it, because of his loving kindness and his long-suffering towards the children of men.
10 And the God of our fathers, who were led out of Egypt, out of bondage, and also were preserved in the wilderness by him, yea, the God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, yieldeth himself, according to the words of the angel, as a man, into the hands of wicked men, to be lifted up, according to the words of Zenock, and to be crucified, according to the words of Neum, and to be buried in a sepulchre, according to the words of Zenos, which he spake concerning the three days of darkness, which should be a sign given of his death unto those who should inhabit the isles of the sea, more especially given unto those who are of the house of Israel. (1 Nephi 19:7-10)
The prophets have all testified of the coming of Christ, and particularly the hardships he will face. I mean, Nephi here was able to quote at least 3 sources for the sacrifices Christ would experience in his last 12 hours!
He truly went through so much, and even was the one that authorized it to happen. Why? Because he knew that salvation would not be cheap!
My dear brothers and sisters, the only way to follow Jesus Christ is to walk a difficult path; to “take up our cross”. Thankfully it doesn't have to be the same path he walked. He gives us the gift of an easier path. But it will still be hard.
Turn to Him! Have faith and repent, and you will never be lost. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
May we forever think of thee and of thy sufferings sore, endured for us on Calvary, and praise thee evermore.
Love,
-Elder Clayton
I forgot to take pictures this week, sorry! 🙃
