Entry Fifty Eight: THEY DROVE HOW FAR?? YOU WON’T BELIEVE IT TILL YOU SEE IT
Ok hello everyone! Forgive the clickbaity title, we have a funny culture in our zone chat where the ZLT makes a mock youtube thumbnail every time someone sends in a little miracle video. Well actually they haven’t done it in a week, but it’s still funny. But, I hope that you are doing well out there! It’s a little chilly, so just make sure you have a coat on for my sake ☺️
This week was really good! We had both zone conference and stake conference. These were some of the most elite meetings I’ve ever been apart of, and I’m very grateful I got to be there. Zone conference was all about getting friends to church, and we learned the doctrine of the sacrament (I’ll share it as part of my spiritual thought because it hit home hard for me).
In fact, zone conference was so good that we got an encore at stake conference lol. Basically, our mission president spoke at stake conference and he basically repeated what we had at zone conference, and threw in a mass roleplay for the whole audience to practice fellowshipping a friend the missionaries could bring them (I love having advocates for missionary work in church meetings 😁).
Last thing of note for this week is that I created a mini game for my district to motivate them to find more. However, it kind of backfired horribly on me and now my companion gets to designate what I wear during our P-Day activity. So, wish me luck 😭
Ok, so the doctrine of the sacrament (as was talked about at zone conference) was not at all what I was expecting. Most people would rightfully turn to the Lord’s Last Supper where Jesus Christ teaches his apostles to “do this in remembrance of me.” However, it gets cooler than just that.
When Jesus Christ visited the American continent post-resurrection, he shared a powerful and personal moment with each of them. Each person got to individually feel the prints in his hands and in his side (which for a group of 2000+ must’ve taken hours!)
After everyone had gone, the whole multitude began crying out in one accord, “Hosanna!” which, we can interpret as, “God, save us!”
This fills Christ with compassion and he begins teaching them the doctrine of baptism and gives them authority to do so.
Compare this experience with what happens at the end of the day when in chapter 17 of 3 Nephi, Jesus Christ tells them he must leave. He perceives the thoughts of the people, and they look longingly as if they would ask him to tarry a little longer. In other words, the multitude is saying, “Don’t leave us!”
Once again, this fills Christ with compassion, and so he heals everyone, blesses the sick, and then angels come and minister. What most people (including me) miss about this miraculous experience is that it doesn’t end at the chapter break. Chapter 18 is still the same event, just part two.
Chapter 18 is the infamous (among missionaries it’s infamous at least) chapter where Jesus institutes the sacrament. He promises very powerfully that if we do this thing in remembrance of him, we’ll always have his spirit with us.
In short, the people pleaded, “God save us!” and Jesus responded with baptism. They then pleaded, “Don’t leave us!” and Jesus responded by giving the sacrament.
These two sister ordinances have brought so much power in my life. I testify that this is God’s approved method to return back to him, through his son, Jesus Christ. Taking the sacrament each week is absolutely critical to the principle of enduring to the end.
When we take the sacrament each week we trade our personal bitter cup for the sweet cup that’s given so freely by him who took our bitter cup in Gethsemane. I know that he lives, and I do so in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
“Father, from me remove this cup. Yet, if thou wilt, I’ll drink it up. I’ve done the work thou gavest me, I’ve done the work thou gavest me; Receive my spirit unto thee.”
I love you, have a good one!
