Entry Sixty: Level of Concern
Why hello again! How was your weeeeeeek? I hope it went well! My week went pretty swimmingly if I do say so myself.
It was honestly just a pretty typical work week though. Not anything crazy that I remember. Unfortunately, my nightly journal time that I used to have is being eaten up by more missionary work. But, one day it shall return. (please)
What I do remember though was that we helped a member move out of our ward and into the neighboring ward that goes to the same building. So, we still saw her that Sunday at church! And, she’s planning on feeding us next week anyways, so it’s like she never left 😂
We got to help the Spanish Sisters with holding a night church service for some friends they’re hoping will get baptized into the Sspanish group. It was a lot of fun even though I didn’t understand a word that was said. Hymns sound so beautiful in Spanish!
I want to share a brief concept from our mission with you today: no BCDs. A BCD is anything that you blame, complain about, or defend/justify. In short, an excuse.
Now, while growing up, whenever I would bring up a valid reason as to why something didn’t go the way we expected, my mom would always joke saying, “excuses, excuses!” While humorous, this is exactly what the principle of no BCDs aims to solve.
In life we constantly make choices. Some things are in our control, some are not. Agency has been given to man though, and God protects our right to choose, by giving us many different choices to make each day. It is up to us which choices are ours and which choices are others.
When we let others make choices for us (in short, BCD), we give up our agency, and might I boldly add we give up our happiness. Please remove all BCDs you can from your life. It may seem insurmountable, but I promise you that this is how you can find happiness!
Jesus Christ shed his blood to give us this, the greatest gift of all! He makes the impossible possible, through faith in his name and his works. Do not squander this monumental opportunity. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
Oh dearly, dearly, has he loved, and we must love him too, and trust in his redeeming blood, and try his works to do.
Love,
-Elder Clayton
