Entry Sixty Two: The Greatest Miracle of All
You made it! You lived another week! Great job, I am so proud of you! And I am very hopeful that it wasn’t just survival mode this week, but that you were thriving.
Ok enough about you let’s talk about me 😁
Elder Painter and I survived transfer armageddon (President Barlow is keeping us together for a second transfer)! It’s actually a pretty big miracle because I love this guy and we are cooking like crazy here in Douglas Lake. Also, this is officially the longest he has ever stayed in an area his whole mission (he has been flung around like an old rag doll lol).
Lots of good came out of this week. My district may have changed a bit, but the vibe is just as cool. Let’s just say I am very excited to run exchanges with Elder Newman again 👀
Two incredible experiences I want to share with you lovelies today:
So at a lesson with Kayla and James, Brother Trujillo got talking with James about the Word of Wisdom and he was pretty set on not giving up his tobacco. Which is fine, his wife is the friend on date anyways, so we don’t have to worry about that commitment quite yet.
But, he’s still getting fellowshipped and was even invited over for the Elder’s Quorum get together where they were just going to shoot guns. For context James a pretty redneck guy (he has this sick flag where it’s the American flag fading into the Don’t Tread On Me (honestly a lot of the flags I’ve seen out here are so cool I might need to start snapping some pics)), and reaaaaaaaaally likes guns.
At the event, he went up to Brother Trujillo and expressed that after pondering and praying a lot, that he wants to get baptized and is willing to do so at any cost. He gave up his tobacco cans. Then, they had the brilliant idea to have the Elder’s Quorum literally shoot the cans as a symbolic termination of his past life. From what I’ve heard from those that were in attendance, it was such a profound spiritual experience! So, we are now working with James to get baptized on the 12th of April! And even better, his wife will be a new member for about 2 weeks leading up to his baptism!
Secondly, we lost contact with Tyrone :/
Didn’t think much of it, this thing unfortunately happens all the time. However, during weekly planning on Friday morning, we get a call from Brother Moffat, who let us know he finally reached Tyrone and that he is still keeping the Word of Wisdom and is set for baptism!
From there we frantically called the Zone Leaders to get an interview setup for later that day, just for him to not answer the door. Again, didn’t think much of it, because we had barely taught Tyrone, we just invited him to try again for baptism.
Luckily, we were smart and left a card in the door, so he called us up later and said apologized for not being there, but that he’d be ready when we were. So, we called the ZLs again and were able to get the interview, which HE PASSED! (also the whole time there was this goofy ahh movie on the TV about this baby that was just an adult man acting 😭)
But yes, yesterday we held the baptism of Tyrone Davis. It was one of the most sweet and precious moments I have ever had the honor of being apart of. Several years in the making.
When I first met Tyrone, he looked a little dead inside. He stank of worldly influences, and I could just tell that despite being at church almost every Sunday and taking the sacrament, he was missing something.
Flash forward to his baptism, and he had a light in his eye I had never seen before. Now, it is important to mention he does have some mental disabilities, and so he always has a stone cold face, but this time something was different. Despite his normal composure, he had light. He looked (and smelled) so much cleaner than I ever thought he could be.
Brothers and Sisters reading, that is the power of Jesus Christ, even unto deliverance. Without Christ, Tyrone would’ve been stuck like he has been for so long. Without Christ, we are stuck. We are hopeless. Helpless. We are in such dire need of redemption.
Oh what a great and marvelous God we have! One who sent his beloved Son. For us. I testify that he lives. He is salvation. He is hope in a dark world. Please don’t forsake this mercy that is given so freely. Turn to him and receive light. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
At the throne I intercede; for thee ever do I plead. I have loved thee as thy friend, with a love that cannot end. Be obedient, I implore, prayerful, watchful, evermore, and be constant unto me, that thy Savior I may be.
I seriously love everyone. Have the best week ever,
-Elder Clayton
